Comments:

We never even dreamed about such score. This one goes down to history. Weekend
of a lifetime for sure. Making 5000 Qs on 15/20 from ES is syrreal. The new big
15m array really proved itself once again. Nearly 900 JAs on one band is unheard
of. In reality none of the bands had perfect conditions. High bands were still
closed the second night and in the last evening only opened again 1-2 hours
before the end. But all in all the conditions were superb. Over 100 US on 160
in SSB is also fantastic. Matching D4C QSO count from up here is incredible.
10m opening to zone 1 in the last few hours of the contest was really a perfect
cherry on the cake. Simply heaven.

We set DR1A EU record as our target and were very delighted to take an early
lead. In reality it appeared that the 2011 target file was also good for real
time comparison as DR1A guys were tracking it precisely:) Congratulations for
good score to DR1A despite unfavorable propagation. I am sure we are going to
have a very exciting battle in CW part again!

My special thanks goes to:

– Tonu, ES2DW, for feeding again the huge crowd of crazy contesters.
– Oleg, YL3DW, who spent most of the contest repairing failed equipment on the
fly and kept us going. There is nothing he can’t fix!
– Valeri, ES5QA, for making each kind of cables, adapters etc continuously for
2-3 days before the contest.
– Rein, ES5RW, who boldly volunteered to climb nearly to the top of the 70
meter big tower late Friday before the contest to fix broken 80m antenna and
while doing it increasing his personal climbing height record from 20 meters to
50 meters.
– Ranko, 4O3A, for having provided us full sets of HP band pass filters and
triplexers. Wihtout those MM operation would have been impossible. And again
filters/triplexers performed flawlessly triplexers calmly handling the 3 RUN
stations transmitting at the same time for 48 hours.
– Toivo, ES2RR, for providing the bottle of Dom Perignon to celebrate 40
million:)

CU in CW! May the 27 day cycle work again!!

Some good catches from Ven/Col – logs since 09.10.2013

October 21, 2013 By: admin Category: BC-stations, DX-listening

Good USA propagation still avoids me, but seems that condx are improving. Meanwhile I have got some excellent Venezuela/Colombia stations. Last week’s files are unlistened, partially I’ve got through the 20th of October files. That night was quite interesting although propagation was to same are than the most of Autumn (VEN/CLM/PTR).

Europe

1503 9.10. 0256- SRB: R Beograd 202. With good reception rock px with DJ talking trash. Here simple ID between the songs: “Dva nula dva”. I have never heard this before. TIK

British Isles

630 15.10. 0459- G: BBC R Cornwall, Lanner. Three Counties Radio dominates, but Cornwall is also very good reception. On 657 BBC Wales is very strong, but I can hear weak Cornwall also there. New BBC on MW. Has not replied to my summer FM report. TIK
666 15.10. 0459- G: BBC R York, Fulford. TIK
738 15.10. 0459- G: BBC Hereford & Worcester, Worcester. New UK freq for me. Power is only 37 watts. TIK
756 15.10. 0500- G: R Hafren, Newtown. “This is Radio Hafren”. Under this weak BBC Radio Cumbria -ID. TIK
765 15.10. 0500- G: BBC Essex. TIK
801 15.10. 0459- G: BBC R Devon, Barnstaple. TIK
837 15.10. 0500- G: BBC Asian Network, Freeman’s Common (Leicester). Louder than ever, also heard on 1449. TIK
855 15.10. 0500- G: BBC R Lancashire, Preston. The king of this QRG. RNE was the second strongest. TIK
963 9.10. 0100- G: Asian Sound Radio, Haslingden. Dominating this morning. Funny thing was that on the 15th Oct both Asian Sound and Buzz Asia were very weak. TIK
1026 15.10. 0459- G: BBC R Jersey, Trinity. Fine UK morning as I got two new BBC locals: Cornwall and this one. TIK
1116 15.10. 0500- G: BBC R Guernsey, Rohais. TIK
1296 15.10. 0500- G: R XL 1296 AM, Langley Mill (Birmingham). TIK

Asia

594 9.10. 0300- ARS: BSKSA 1, Doba. TIK
1260 13.10. 1559- PAK: R Pakistan, Peshawar. For me ID sounds like: “Pakistan Peshawar (female), Radio Pakistan (male)”. TIK
1305 9.10. 0000- ISR: Galei Zahal, Rosh-Pina. TIK
1413 19.10. 1558- JPN: JOIF Fukuoka. TIK

Central America

640 20.10. 0130- CUB: R Progreso, Guanabacoa/Las Tunas. Early evening here Guadeloupe, later Canadian. Waiting list has Ecuadorian. I wonder what was music station at [.996] in the morning. TIK
1070 14.10. 0400- CUB: CMKS R Trinchera Antimperialista, Guantánamo. Easy to recognize from Guantanamera-song. Heard also on 1020 but with the weaker signal. TIK
1320 20.10. 0000- PTR: WSKN R Isla, San Juan PR. “Media Power Group, Radio Isla”. TIK

South America

560 9.10. 0359- GUY: Voice of Guyana, Georgetown. Probably the most common South American on low part of MW. This night also the only one. IDs are not always easy. Usually braodcasts music px with low tone DJ. IDs before changes to BBC WS at 0400. Also heard good IDs at 0000z. Not QSLed yet. [560.003] TIK
570 20.10. 0500- CLM: HJND Señal Radio Colombia, Bogotá. Signal peaking at 0530z. TIK

1130 19.10. 2359- CLM: HJVA Vida AM, Bogotá. Many others in the QRG but only IDs from common Vida [1129.978]. TIK

1350 15.10. 0458- ARG: LS6 R Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires. Probably also 1270 Argentina. Lots of interesting signals in the low part but no IDs (eg. 590, 650, 680, 740, 790, 840, 860, 930 religious, 940 sounded religious too). TIK

New arrived QSLs

October 10, 2013 By: admin Category: Uncategorized

It’s been a bit quiet with QSLs lately. The patch of reports I sent one month ago produced low ratio of verifications. Lately I have been busy with the unlistened files. But some confirmations have arrived:

570. KTCN Minneapolis MN 1130 kHz

This was heard in September. Jess Meyer (N0QKH), Engineering & IT Director replied with email and MP3-studioclip of same time I sent to the station.

571. CMKP Radio Progreso, San Germán 900 kHz

This is a regular station when the propagation is more to Cuba than to South America. Station replied via Facebook.

572. CMDC Radio Reloj, Santa Clara 570 kHz

Aydenis Ortega Che, subdirectora replied quickly by email.

573. HJNT Radio Huellas, Cali 1470 kHz

Frequent visitor on 1470 kHz. Pedro Arturo Suarez R. sent me confirmation via email.

Some additional log for September

October 06, 2013 By: admin Category: BC-stations, DX-listening

I have gone through more files of September. The 23th had one of the best CLM/VEN-openings I’ve had, lots of new and rare stations were heard. Condx started from Colombia after 0300Z and then turned to Venezuela peaking around 0430Z.

South America

620 23.9. 0428- VEN: Radio Libertad 620, Cabimas . I didn’t find any loggins from Finland since 1994. I was listening to nonstopmx station which I suppose was Colmundo Cali but then at 0428 this one peaked and gave very clear and nice IDs. As this was so rare station, I sent my clip to Henrik (HK), who sanctioned it. Station slogan was “Libertad 620, la de siempre”. Now I am working on to get a QSL. TIK
630 23.9. 0428- VEN: YVKA R Nacional de Venezuela, Caracas. Not very common this one either. After BBC and Notiuno faded out, this was audible with ID: “…en Canal Informativo de Radio Nacional de Venezuela”. At local midnight big IDs and national anthem. TIK
660 23.9. 0356- CLM: R Auténtica, Cali. Not a big suprise as I heard W Radio Cali at 690. I don’t know for sure what is a callsign of Auténtica (HJJM, HJJN or HJEZ). Also at 670 had interesting accordion mx station with Rumbos. Unfortunately no IDs between songs. TIK
660 23.9. 0427- VEN: YVNA Ondas de los Medanos, Coro. Alone in the frequency. [659.997]. TIK
700 23.9. 0357- CLM: HJCX W R, Cali. Online log has only one tentative logging. Shouted between records “Doble U Radio”. In the frequency also [.993] probably Sucre and [.007] which was Popular. This is at [700.002]. TIK
920 3.10. 0359- PRG: ZP1 R Nacional de Paraguay, Asúncion. After aurora borealis the band was quite silent. In the upper band few common stations from Peru and then this. This is the second time this season I heard RNP. TIK

The logs between 18th and 26th of September 2013

October 03, 2013 By: admin Category: BC-stations, DX-listening

Propagation has been very good lately. I was away from home one week and I had a remote-QTH recording from the 24th till 1st of October. Unfortunately software had failed after the 26th so I missed the excellent US conditions on the 28th and 29th. After that CME hit the Earth and there was visible aurora in the Southern Finland yesterday evening but it seems that the band is recovering very quickly. All day today Tromso K-index has been 0.

Again I have bolded interesting (for me) stations.

Europe

1530 21.9. 0300- ROU: R Constanta. Usually always Pulse 2 ja Actualitci. Also now but also this one. The 26th VOA Pinheira was strong this time. TIK

Iberia

900 26.9. 0400- E: Radio Popular de Bilbao, Herri Irratia, Bilbao. The strongest this morning. TIK

North America

1160 20.9. 0400- BER: VSB3 Hamilton. The first “identified” Bermuda but unfortunately only BBC WS. The hunt continues on 1450 … TIK
1290 21.9. 0324-0403 USA: WJNO West Palm Beach FL. Also some TLK-stn. A bit earlier on 1320 also FL, because stn was using creole French. And Nothing Compare 2U USA stn on 1340 is most likely WROD. Good FL peak but no luck with IDs. TIK
1440 18.9. 0102- USA: WRED Westbrook ME. “The Jab” WEEI Red Sox Radio Network. TIK

Central America

710 20.9. 0358- CUB: R Progreso. Via Rebelde? TIK
820 18.9. 0400- CUB: R Progreso, Moa. TIK
970 25.9. 0430- VIR: WSTX St. Croix VI. Something I expected to hear: “AM 9-70, W-S-T-X”. Next night few hours earlier. [970.007]. TIK Editoi
1020 18.9. 0359- CUB: CMKS R Trinchera, Guantánamo. In the beginning of this month Cuba was not heard but now they came very well. This is new one. TIK
1050 21.9. 0204- CUB: CMLL R Victoria, Las Tunas, LT. Other Spanish here too. TIK
1060 20.9. 0359- CUB: CMDL R 26, Matanzas. National anthem at midnight. TIK
1060 25.9. 0359- DOM: HIAJ R Amanecer, San Pedro de Macorís. [1060.004]. TIK

1440 21.9. 0233- NCG: Tentative: YNA3MR R Maranatha, Managua. JE hrd this same time in Sweden. Too weak for details here but it is this as the split is [1439.863]. [1409.998] has someone with disturbed audio. HOH700 Radio Mensabé Las Tablas has heard with the bad audio but this one is sending talk programmes. Also hrd it on the 26th. TIK
1480 23.9. 0425- PTR: WMDD Fajardo PR. This season much more common than last winter. Faded out quickly 0430z. TIK
