How to apply ham radio license for Cabo Verde D4?

April 01, 2025 By: admin Category: DX Pedition, Ham radio, Licensing, Tips

This is how I got my callsign D4NA in 2023 for my stay in Sal Island, Cabo Verde. Disclaimer: details may have changed since that.

D4 license is quite straightforward:
– send a formal application to Marise L. Lima in ARME/GAC email: Marise.Lima ät arme.cv

This is from her email (translated from Portuguese to English, I think it is better to write in Portuguese, I used Google Translate)
Very good morning Mr. Timo Klimoff,

To apply for an amateur radio license in Cape Verde, you must send a formal request letter or email, with a copy of your passport and a copy of your amateur radio license.

Best wishes for a good day.

After sending your basic information with a call request (like D4xx or D44xxx) and attachments, Marise will email to you an invoice. Paying this invoice – transfering D4 money (about 9 euros) cheaply was the hardest part 🙂 I used web service called Wise but there are alternatives.
Getting the license takes few weeks. After me D4X (OH5ZA) and D44BM (OH0XX) have applied (and worked from the same hotel than me) same way.
